Depression and Suicide
Although Hemingway lived a lifestyle that most men can only dream of today, he also suffered from many personal issues involving depression and eventually suicide. Around the time when he won the Noble Prize for Literature in 1954, was when he peaked in his literary career. Although his life seemed good, the multiple plane crashes, gun shots, injuries ,and heartbreaks began to take a toll on him. Hemingway's body and mind started to really betray him in the early 1960's where he was extremely depressed and was treated for numerous conditions such as high blood pressure and liver disease due to his severe drinking habits. Another thing that really contributed to this lifelong trauma was his child hood. His mother would dress him as a girl because she didn't want a boy. This alone is enough to mess up ones mind. On the morning of July 2nd, 1961 Ernest Hemingway took his own life in his home.
